This is a series of illustrations inspired by Charles-Pierre Baudelaires Les Fleurs Du Mal, a collection of poems written and rearranged throughout the 1850s and 60s. The predominant themes are melancholy, romanticism, death, but also decadence and eroticism. In fact to me often death, disgust, life and the female body were all combined, sometimes in a quite disturbing manner, sometimes to paint beautiful pictures.
My goal was, to show these general themes combined with details from different poems by layering images using a silkscreen printing method.
The seven Illustrations were printed on transparent paper alongside with a few handpicked poems of the collection to create a beautifully disturbing Zine under the title "Vanitas and Vagibas".
